The aims and objectives of 0161 Community are to highlight the issues and injustices faced across Manchester through music, sport and art. We seek to empower the unheard and provide youth with skills, guidance and confidence.
Radical walking tours – Showing local radical history and the amazing people that came from across Manchester. To encourage conversation and an exchange of knowledge of our city. To build community relationships and by providing a brief history of Manchester and the importance of understanding the city’s radical history, that we will be able to demonstrate clearly how it is still relevant today.
0161 Community Gym – Running a variety of free martial arts events and classes in local communities, from BJJ to boxing and MMA to Muay Thai, everything will be covered. Beginners and all abilities welcome.
We will be hosting a variety of community creative days throughout the year – Bringing people together to be creative – using the banner of 0161 Community. The events will have entertainment for children and families, a range of community and voluntary organisations’ stalls, sporting activities, and starter classes in a whole range of activities from such as DJing and photography.
We will deliver anti-discrimination workshops and encourage these groups to take part in radical walking tours and hopefully assist us in any future events. We want to reach out to those who wish to share knowledge, and to take an active role in their community. From engaging with the youth, to all members of communities, to transcend across as many people from these areas as possible.
